OLD TESTAMENT SALVATION

Saints of the Old Testament were saved by grace.

Genesis 15:6
And he BELIEVED in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Watch Paul teach from this text.

Romans 4:2-3
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; BUT NOT BEFORE GOD.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS COUNTED UNTO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Abraham got save by grace as Paul recounts, nothing new!

Acts 10:43
TO HIM GIVE ALL THE PROPHETS WITNESS, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

They gave him witness because they knew him, even though they called him by a different name.

Habakkuk 2:4
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Paul teaches grace again from this very passage.

Romans 1:17
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Paul is teaching New Testament theology from The Old Testament?  Of course, because the same doctrine of grace was from the very beginning!

Psalms 32:2
Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Paul exclusively teaches from Old Testament because the veil is lifted from his eyes.

Romans 4:7-8

[Saying], Blessed [are] they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Blessed [is] the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Calling upon the name of the LORD is done by faith. Now read this verse.

Genesis 4:26
And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Psalm 116:13
I will take the cup of salvation, and CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD.

How do you get saved?

Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Nothing new!

Matthew 17:3
And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

Moses and Elijah were already in heaven come to give the Holy One comfort.  How could this be if they were in some holding tank until the resurrection, as some teach.

John 3:5-10
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, AND THOU KNOWEST NOT THESE THINGS?

Jesus expected him to know theses things because the Old Testament taught grace through faith or else how could he have scolded him for not knowing a new doctrine, IT IS NOT NEW.

Keep in mind as well that able offered a sacrifice of a lamb while cain gave from the fruit of the land. God did not accept Cain's sacrifice because it was not a picture of the slain lamb of God that believing Jews were anticipating.

Genesis 4:2-5
And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:  But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

 Hebrews 11:4
BY FAITH Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, BY WHICH HE OBTAINED WITNESS THAT HE WAS RIGHTOUS, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

OT saints were saved by grace too. The only difference was the arival of Christ. They worshiped Christ in the foreshadowing of the Passover which foretold his coming. That is worship and recognition of Christ, even though they did not know the name Jesus. You must understand we experience the sacrifice in time and yet God stands outside of time.

 Revelation 13:8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.

The grace of the sacrifice was able to be applied at any point in history because it happened before history.  God transcends time, we don't, so we experience him in time.

I will give you  another example

Ephesians 2:6
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus

Paul is talking like it already happened, we are regenerated but we are in earth and not in heavenly places YET.   Paul is speaking from the vantage point of God who is not hindered by the constraints of time.  As far as God is concerned the saved are already there, seated with him.

-But to him that worketh not
